Know the gap. Close it with the Texas Census Institute.
Texas left billions on the table in the 2020 Census.
10-Year Federal Funding Left Behind
$25B
Driven by 550,000 Texans who went uncounted in the 2020 Census.

Hundreds of billions in federal funding are distributed to Texas each year using census population data. Because Texas was undercounted in 2020, the state will not receive an estimated $25 billion of it — money that would have gone to healthcare, education, housing, and infrastructure programs across an entire decade. Texas Census Institute (TxCI) is working to correct this before the 2030 Census. See how we can help →

Legend
Fewer residents undercounted More residents undercounted
Shading reflects the estimated number of residents not counted, not the percentage undercount.
No undercount, or overcounted
These figures are estimates drawn from our research covering all 254 Texas counties. Counties shown in grey were overcounted relative to their estimated population and are not assigned a share of the statewide funding loss. However, a net overcount does not mean every community or population group within a county was counted accurately — some overcounted counties still experienced significant undercounts of young children and other hard-to-count populations. For methodology and sources, see our full analysis of the 2020 Census undercount in Texas counties.
